Yes.  You always know how many people have viewed individual knowledge items, but if the user is logged in, you know precisely who looked at what and when.  You also set a flag for any or all knowledge items that require the user to log in to the system before viewing the knowledge item.  This rich information is then available for reporting and is utilized in our usage analytics module.
